Teacher Plus
Designer

Enric's interest in fonts is a result of his professional work. He studied design during a period when it wasn’t taught as such, but over time, his interest in this specific topic grew.

In the 90s when the first text editors for personal computers appeared, he and a group of friends established Type-Ø-Tones, a company that still exists today.

He became especially interested in the use of letters, incorporating the subject into the design classes he taught at Escuela Elisava and later at Eina.

He is the author of several texts and books, including Veintidós consejos sobre tipografía (que algunos diseñadores jamás revelarán), Veintidós cosas que nunca debes hacer con las letras (que algunos tipógrafos nunca te dirán), and Pensar con imágenes. He’s also spoken at conferences about fonts, explaining the topic in a way that he wishes it would've been explained to him. This includes explaining the origins and reasons for each aspect, starting with the most important parts and finishing with details and tips, and questioning the assumptions and myths surrounding fonts.

Aside from fonts, his work mainly focuses on magazine, book cover, and corporate image design. In collaboration with Marcus Villaça, he's worked on multiple publishing projects, including the redesign of the Chicago Reader newspaper and the Boston Phoenix.

From September 2005 to April 2009, he served as president of the Asociación de Directores de Arte y Diseñadores Gráficos ADG-FAD. In October 2009, he received the Premio Nacional de Cultura design prize from the Autonomous Government of Catalonia.
