Through hand-lettering you can take an author’s story and give it a playful visual language for children. Hand-lettering artist and illustrator Shauna Lynn specializes in creating compositions for children’s publications and a whole host of other clients including Adobe, Samsung, and Facebook. She is also the co-author of Creative Lettering and Beyond.
In this course, she teaches you how to design and incorporate hand-drawn lettering into your children’s book compositions. Shauna guides you through how to create a vibrant spread featuring both lettering and illustration that appeals to children and those who are children at heart. Shauna works digitally in this course, using Procreate, but you're welcome to use a medium of your choice. If you wish to follow Shauna's digital approach, you’ll need access to a device with a design program like Adobe Photoshop or Procreate installed, and some previous experience using the software.

Shauna Lynn is a hand-lettering artist and illustrator based in the United States. She has been drawing since she was able to hold a pencil and was always encouraged to pursue her artistic side by her creative parents. After starting an opera program at the University of North Florida, she transferred to a bachelor's of fine arts with a focus on graphic design and digital media. From there, she worked in a number of internships and had her poster design accepted by the Communication Arts Typography Competition which launched her freelance career.
Since then, Shauna has worked for clients including Adobe, Microsoft, Samsung, Twitter, and Facebook. Her work, which she creates from her home studio near Chicago, has been featured in Advanced Photoshop Magazine, PRINT Magazine, Dribbble, and more. She is also the co-author of Creative Lettering and Beyond, has hosted numerous workshops, and spoken at events including Adobe MAX 2020.

Clear explanations with awesome examples. I want to really soak in the information not just be exposed once and then fly on by to the next video which is is why I haven't yet started the exercises but even so, I am noticing things in my collection of illustration children's books that went unperceived before. Even in the other Domestika courses that I am currently working on, Shauna's wisdom and words are influencing me.. I can only imagine the changes when I actually do the project!

I can say this course is for lettering "outside the box ", lettering that holds personalities and emotions. It is something that is not easy to teach, to learn or to practice. I am glad that I have this course in hand.

I was overwhelmed by the idea of learning to letter in my illustrations, and this course was the perfect mix of accessible and pushing me out of my comfort zone. I had fun with the practice exercises and the final project, and I liked Shauna's instruction. This course helped me learn how to start, which was the hardest thing for me! Now I feel ready to get more practice in and really explore lettering! Thank you so much, Shauna!
