Who is this online course for?

This course is aimed at photographers, retouchers, and advanced hobbyists who want to learn techniques and tricks to improve their photography skills, especially in portraiture.

Think you don't have the skill level? Don't worry—learn by watching a professional at work and come to understand the complete process of creating a studio photo.

Requirements and materials

To get the most out of this course, you should know how to handle a camera and have basic knowledge of Photoshop and Lightroom.

Materials you need: a camera—reflex is better—and a computer with Photoshop and Lightroom installed. And most importantly: your muse! It can be a model or friend who doesn't mind featuring in your final project. It doesn't have to be the great actor Tamar Novas or someone who has won a Goya; not everyone has Jorge Alvariño's contacts...

I am Jorge Alvariño, and I started working as a still photographer on film shoots, taking promotional photographs and creating movie posters with international producers and distributors such as Apaches Entertainment, Aurum, Paramount, Universal Pictures, Telecinco Cinema, and Antena 3 Films.

I have carried out advertising campaigns for different clients: Coca Cola, Banco Santander, BBVA, Bancaja, and EMI music, and since mid-2011, I have been represented in advertising by Maribel Zaldivar for the Essencial agency.

I have photographed celebrities such as Elijah Wood, Javier Bardem, Alec Baldwin, Sasha Grey, Clive Owen, Pau Gasol, Daniel Brühl, and Corey Feldman for publications such as Esquire, Empire, Rolling Stone, Premiere, American Cinematographer, Vogue, El Pais Semanal, El Sunday, and other international magazines.
