I'm Marion, a self-taught tapestry weaver and artist based in Dublin, Ireland.
I started weaving as a hobby and immediately fell in love with it. I have always enjoyed making things with my hands, and experimented with knitting, embroidery and macramé before discovering weaving. I also love interior design and statement art pieces, and woven tapestries bring a unique depth and texture to spaces.
The repetitive nature of weaving is therapeutic and calming for me, and I love that it involves no computers, screens, technology or plugs. It can be picked up and put back down again with minimal set up and or clean up and requires very little specialist tools. When I weave I listen to music, podcasts or audiobooks. My smaller looms are transportable, and I weave indoors, outdoors, watching movies or chatting with friends, whenever I can fit in time for weaving.
Every piece I make is an experiment and opportunity for learning for me. I take inspiration from nature, interior design, photography, and many other forms of visual art, and love trying out new styles and techniques.
Weaving is something that is slowly migrating from a hobby to a vocation. I work full-time for a consultancy that specialises in culture, sustainability and wellbeing so finding time to weave can be challenge, but I hope to weave myself out of the day job sometime soon.
