Marco Mazzoni

I'm born in 1982 in Tortona (AL), I live and work in Voghera (Italy).
In 2007 i achieved my degree in painting at the Art Academy of Brera (Milan).

i work exclusively with colored pencils, I often represent the flora, fauna and female mystics of Sardinia from the 16th to the 18th centuries
Combining organic shapes and textures with chiaroscuro contrasts of light and shadow, my drawings portray isolated female faces framed by plants and animals.
My imagery refers to the herbalist traditions and Sardinian folklore of the mystical seductresses who enchant, curse and cure. My body of work is a tribute to the legacy of healing women throughout history.

my works appeared in books, newspapers and magazines such as The New Yorker, Juxtapoz Magazine, Hi Fructose Magazine, Les Arts Dessines, Arte Mondadori.
With Albin Michel I published the illustrated book "Poucette" (distributed in Spain for Edelvives with the title "Pulgarcita"). I'm preparing an illustrated book in collaboration with Sébastien Perez.

I collaborate with Jonathan LeVine Projects (New Jersey) and Thinkspace Projects (Los Angeles) for America, Gallery Benoni (Copenhagen), Galleria Patricia Armocida (Milan), Galleria Giovanni Bonelli (Milan) for Europe.
I took part in the 54th International Art Exhibition, Biennale di Venezia, Italian Pavilion, curated by Vittorio Sgarbi, Lombardy Regional Pavilion, Palazzo Te, Mantova, "Turn The Page: the first ten years of hi-fructose" at the Virginia Museum of Contemporary Art (Moca) (US), POW!
